Question # 1

In one experiment, a red wagon at rest is pushed to the left with a force of 150N for 1.0s. In a second experiment a blue wagon with the same mass as the red wagon is pushed from rest to the left with a force of 150N for 2.0s. Which statement below is true?

a) The red wagon had a smaller impulse but a larger change in momentum than the blue.

b) The red wagon had a smaller impulse and a smaller change in momentum than the blue.

c) The red wagon had a same impulse and a same change in momentum as the blue.

d) The red wagon had a larger impulse but a smaller change in momentum than the blue.

e) The red wagon had the same impulse but a larger change in momentum than the blue.

Reason:-

The red wagon had a smaller impulse because the red wagon is pushed for 1 sec as compared to blue. The value of force is same the time limit is short in this experiment. Same is the case for change in momentum. It is facing force for short time interval as compared to the red wagon so its momentum is smaller.

Question # 2

The light’s wavelength is 6.0×10-7 m. The light completes 5.0 cycles in 10-14 seconds. What is the light’s wave speed? Marks = 5

Wave speed = frequency x wavelength.

Wavelength = 6.0×10-7 m

Frequency = 5.0/10-14

= 5.0*1014

Now

Wave speed = 6.0×10-7×5.0×1014

= 30.0 × 107m.

A person takes a 2.0Kg mass and lifts it 0.50m above a table that is itself 1.0m above the floor.

The person then moves the mass 1.0m to the side so that it is directly over the floor, 1.50m below. Which statement is true?

= 2.0×1.5×10=30.0 J correct option.

b) The person did 10.0J of work in lifting the mass.

PE=mgh

PE= mgh

= 2.0×0.5×10=10.0 J correct option.

d) The person did not work against gravity when moving the mass 1.0m to the side.

Value of gravity is constant horizontally so work done horizontally at a fixed height is constant anywhere.

Find

(a) The amplitude;

=0.12m+0.12m

=0.24m

(c) The frequency.

F=1/T

= 1/0.8

= 1.25 s-1

(b) The period;

T=1/f

= 1/1.25

= 0.8 sec.
