It is important for every student to take part in this discussion board. Your comments will be graded, which is worth 5% of your total marks.

The topic is:

"Diodes are used in all electronic devices but now mostly these are replaced by LEDs. Why is it going so? How are these better than ordinary diodes?"

Instructions about GDB are given below

  • Your answer should be concise and not exceed more than 150 words.
  • Don’t put duel entries, Post your answer only once.
  • Any one who copy and paste the comments of others will be graded zero marks.
  • No answer will be accepted through email after closing of GDB.

Please, inform all the students to take part in this discussion, other wise they will miss marks.

any idea about the GDB Please  ??????

GDB topic is:

"Diodes are used in all electronic devices but now mostly these are replaced by LEDs. Why is it going so? How are these better than ordinary diodes?"

Please give some idea about this if any one knows.

Dear Students Don’t wait for solution post your problems here and discuss ... after discussion a perfect solution will come in a result. So, Start it now, replies here give your comments according to your knowledge and understandings....

A diode allows electricity to flow in one direction only and blocks the flow in the opposite direction. They may be regarded as one-way valves and they are used in various circuits, usually as a form of protection. There are different types of diode but their basic functions are the same. These are noted below along with examples of diodes in use. The most common type of diode is a ‘silicon diode.’ It is enclosed in a glass cylinder with the dark band marking the cathode terminal. This line points towards the positive of a circuit. The opposite terminal is called the anode. Generally, diodes do not conduct until the voltage reaches approximately .6 volts; this is called the ‘threshold point’. If the current becomes too high the diode may crack or melt.

Ahmad Bilal gud keep it up & thank for sharing

Attention Students: You don’t need to go any other site for this assignment/GDB/Online Quiz solution, Because All discussed data of our members in this discussion are going from here to other sites (Other sites Admins posted with fake IDs at their sites :p ). You can judge this at other sites yourself. So don’t waste your precious time with different links.

ahmad bhai ap ny LEDs ka zikar ni kea

A diode is an electrical component that has an anode and a cathode. The resistance is lower (current flows easier) from anode to cathode and higher in the reverse direction making them useful for changing alternating current to direct current at higher power levels and in logic circuits at lower levels. "LED" means, light emitting diode. That doesn't mean LEDs are "better," it means they function in circuits where providing a visual representation of their state is needed.

As devices are made to perform more "intelligent" operations, diode circuits can be built inside the chip rather than mounted on a circuit board. Diodes aren't "being replaced," rather the construction of electronic devices is becoming more complicated causing them to be used in different ways.

LED stands for light-emitting diode, so on the surface, it may appear there is any different between the LED and a common diode. Normal diodes, however, are used as resisting semiconductors in electric circuits, while LEDs are designed specifically to produce light as a result of the extra energy caused by their resistance. This leads to several key differences.
Normal diodes are designed to affect electrical current, while LEDs are created to make light. This makes a lot of difference when it comes to placement and production. Normal diodes are hidden away in circuits where they can do their job, while LEDs are displayed so their light can be easily seen. Manufacturers must produce LEDs so that the diode materials are placed in the forefront of the device and not hidden by wires or connections

Diodes are being replaced by ordinary diodes because, LED make excellent voltage references from a transistor current source circuit. They are also very good for setting up thresholds for R-C timer circuits. It also provides a visual indication that the circuit is turned on, or the threshold has been reached. There for LED’s are batter then ordinary diodes.
