SEMESTER Fall 2012
Personality Psychology (PSY405)
Assignment No. 2
Due Date: 28-01-2013
Skillfully administer Thematic Apperception Test
ASSIGNMENT 02:
TAT is a projective test consisting of a series of pictures, in which the subject is required to create a
story about what he believes, is occurring in the picture. TAT is a tool which is used for
comprehensive evaluation of personality. Psychologist can access the cognitive styles, imaginative
processes, family dynamics,
inner adjustment, emotional reactivity, general intelligence and sexual adjustment of the subject.
Here is an activity for you based on TAT.
1. First of all select a person, either male or female, from your surroundings. It is mandatory for
you to be aware of his/her personal history. After that select a place which is quiet and you can
give following instructions to him/her :
“I am going to show you some pictures, and I would like you to tell me a story for each card
exclusively. In your story you have to narrate; what is happening in the picture? What
happened before? What are people thinking and how are they feeling? How does it turn out in
the end? So in short, I would like you to tell a whole story with a beginning, middle, and
ending. You can make up any story you want about these pictures.
2. If something is missing in the written story by the respondent, you can ask questions like how
does it end? It’s very important to write down the verbatim of participant in detail because that
may help in interpretation.
3. You must be very cautious while administering each card because you have to present each
card individually and should note down the time which a participant consumed for writing
each story.
4. Your final task is to interpret those stories and assess participant’s personality and write a brief
report about that person who has written the stories. Report should be comprised of three
major sections:
·
Bio-data: Students are required to write age, gender, education and occupation of the
client in this section (3)
·
Interpretation: In this section students have to interpret each card separately according
to the guidelines provided by the instructor in the download section. (3+3+3)
·
Conclusion: At the end, students have to compile and conclude the report in such a
way that he/she should relate the interpretation with the history of the client and
evaluate the personality of the client. (5)
