According to my understanding I don’t beliefs that forgotten memories lost forever. Those memories that once saved in long term memory store exist for ever. They cannot be deleted permanently although we repress them either deliberately or unintentionally can be put aside due to different new task interference. The new material pushes the old one’s backside although it is saved in whole cerebrum but is not at the conscious level all the time. When we face or interact the material later we can recognize but are unable to recall all the material it was. For example we ate breakfast about a month ago at Gulshan hotel we can forget at a moment what was in the breakfast but, we can recognize the place and also remember that we had eaten breakfast after giving stress on that topic. Same like this another example I take from study. When we want to give our final term exam a revision, we only read the headings other material comes in our mind automatically that were previously prepared. This material comes at conscious level by cues its means the material was not deleted but was sent into deeper cells /level. When we click one cell it activates other linking cell so the material comes at conscious level after filtering through short term memory when it’s activated. The deeper the memories saved the more times it takes to come at conscious level for functioning. Although time and interference play a major role in forgetting.
