Dear Students!

 

This is to inform you that Assignment No. 1 will be opened on November 13, 2015 and due date of assignment submission will be November 19, 2015.

 

A 24 hours extra/grace period after the due date is usually available to overcome uploading difficulties which may be faced by the students on last date. This extra time should only be used to meet the emergencies; and above mentioned due date should always be treated as final to avoid any inconvenience.

 

Important:

To open the assignment file, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader/ PDF Reader installed on your computer.

For acquiring the relevant knowledge, do not rely only on handouts but watch the course video lectures and read additional material available online or in any other mode.

Ethnography

 

Learning objective:

 

To enable students to understand the functionalist school of thought and its practical application in indigenous culture.

To familiarize students with basics of participant observation.

 

Part 01

 

Suppose you are one of the strong supporters of Functionalist school of thought and have complete observation of culture (norms, values, dressing, food etc.) of your own community. Based on your observation of indigenous culture, what strengths and weaknesses do you see in functionalism school of thought and how these merits and demerits are significant in making certain image of this theory (positive or bad) among other anthropological theories?

 

Marking scheme

 

Application of Functionalist school of thought including strengths and weakness (6 marks)

Significance amongst other theories (04 marks)

 

Part 02

 

Suppose an anthropologist is conducting a participant observation in order to see the indirect sharing of Drug users in day to day setting that may be the core cause of HIV acquisition as well. In this setting in order to conduct participant observation what ethical considerations he/she needs to keep in mind? Identify and briefly explain any five. (10 marks)

The file you uploaded does not open or is corrupt It is in any format other than doc (MS. Word)

It is cheated or copied from other students, internet, books, journals etc…

and how theses positive or negative points make this  theory significant among other theories (school of thoughts)

& in q# 2
