Answer:

(i) Neither business will be robbed.
P (not G) = 1 - 0.10 = 0.90
P ( not B ) = 1 – 0.02 = 0.98
P (G nor B) = 0.90 * 0.98 = 0.88

(ii) Either one or the other (but not both) will be robbed.
P ( G U B ) = 0.10 + 0.02 – ( 0.10 ) ( 0.02 ) = 0.118

P(G)' = 1 - 0.10 = 0.90

P(B)' = 1 - 0.02 = 0.98

P(G nor B) = 0.90 * 0.98

P(G nor B) = 0.882

P(G U B) = 0.10 + 0.02 - (0.10)(0.02)

P(G U B) = 0.118
