Hardly anyone would disagree with the fact that we are perhaps the most amazing nation of the world. Amazing, not in a very good sense, though. We have some startling thesis for every international and domestic issue; and simultaneously we also have an antithesis about the same subject. In other words, we carry all kinds of contradictions and anomalies in our national behaviour which, even a "genius" like me :P, is unable to understand at times. Some examples in this regard are given below for… Continue

Most of us think that reading books is boring, especially during the holidays which are meant to be spent in just fun and games. Reading books, for most of us doesn’t come under the head of enjoyable pastime. Who would want to sit and read when so many other “interesting” activities are calling out for attention, right?
Well, wrong, because reading books is the best way to groom your personality and, believe me, it’s very interesting as well. Once you get into the habit, you’ll know… Continue

The floods have been disastrous for all but they have been the worst for the poor. The ones suffering the most consequences of the flood are women and children. However, one can't help but notice the failure of the government in acting up according to what the situation demands.
The images of the helpless poor gone mad with hunger - for the first time men and women fighting each other over inadequate donated rations; children picking out fallen food grains from the ground; and the fury and… Continue

Each year Ramazan comes around and everything for the Muslim side of the world changes. With this change comes diversity, because Ramazan does have its own variety – there are different family traditions, different kinds of prayers, different kinds of foods and even different kinds of fasters! Now some of you may think we're about to dive into a discussion on different religious practices but you couldn't be farther from the truth. This is more about people we've all encountered in Ramazan… Continue

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there…to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be but, when you lock eyes with them, you know that every moment they will affect your life in some profound way. And sometimes things happen to you at the time that may seem horrible, painful and unfair but, upon reflection, you realize that without overcoming… Continue

It is a common practice in developed countries that those who have achieved a prominent position in their respective fields visit universities to educate, enlighten, and groom the younger generation. The year 2008 saw one of the biggest election campaigns in the history of the United States, and perhaps the world. At the time, Senators Barack Obama and John McCain left no stone unturned in their battle for the Oval Office. Not only did they focus the masses, but they also focused on another… Continue

There is much to celebrate in Pakistan: its scenic beauty ranging from lofty mountains, to deserts, to incredibly beautiful valleys, to river plains, and wetlands; the range of activities it offers from skiing, to scaling high peaks, to gliding, to sailing, to desert safaris; its food which has found its way into the restaurants and kitchens around the world, and its fruits; mangoes and kinoos in particular, which are rated the best worldwide.
But it is a country at a nadir - it is… Continue

Have you ever thought about what you really want to do in your life? Hang on, this is not an inspiration from '3 Idiots'.
This simple yet tricky question can be answered probably in 101 ways but still, the most likely responses may vary from person to person, e.g. "I have never thought about life that way" or "I don't know!" Although we all have a wish list in our minds which can best be described in Ghalib's words as 'Hazaron khuahishein aisi ke her khuahish pey dam nikley'; but this wish… Continue

Life is a journey through many terrains, from gardens of pleasures to deserts of pain, from an ocean of love to a jungle of “hate”, from mountains of glory to
canyons of “hate”. There is a highway for joy and a highway for sorrows, a road
for today and a road for tomorrow.
Life moves so fast. One moment… Continue

O’ my country, I never thought this to happen
For me, my soul and my life, you are my heaven
Walking the path where there are sacrifices, hurdles and tears
But for you, O’ my country, I do not fear.
Seconds seem to be years,
It’s my heart filled with tears.
No one knows the magic that’d cure,
For I have dipped my soul into yours.
Seasons come 'n’ seasons go,
How much I love you, only God… Continue

Scientifically, anything we hear or read gets imprinted in this little memory box inside our skull subconsciously. It may not affect us instantly, but later on, sometime in life, it can be evoked by a similar event or maybe any similar thing which reminds us of it.
Exactly the reason why I believe that it takes two minutes to cause damage by wagging this little weapon inside our oral cavity, but centuries to recompense it. Hence every single word which we utter should be carefully… Continue

As far as my own knowledge and experience has taken me, I have witnessed a steady increase in the number of single Pakistani young women of marriageable age in the last few years. While choosing to remain single of one’s own choice is entirely reasonable, many of these women do wish to get married but cannot for lack of appropriate suitors.
The cause of this has been pondered by many a worrisome mother whilst they scout for suitable young men for their daughters and giving up at… Continue

Peace, what a word to define
That all nice things get fit and fine
But how difficult it is to find
Together are few who sit and dine
Travelling from country to country
In search of peace, but nowhere it's seen
I sat down and thought and thought and thought
And was surprised with the idea I got
Peace is the reflection of love and care
And can be seen in this world everywhere
Be content and thankful to God
Who has created the universe for us… Continue

Two cannibals, a father and son, were elected by the tribe to go out and get something to eat. They walked deep into the jungle and waited by a path. After some time, along came this little old man. The son said, "Dad! There is one." The father replied, "No, there is not enough meat on that one to even feed the dogs. We will just wait." A little while later, along came this really fat man. The son said, "Hey dad, he is plenty big enough." The father again replied, "No we'd all die of a heart… Continue

Of course all of us have strong faith in ourselves and know how to tackle bad situations, but don't you feel sometimes as if you're not getting what you deserve? Life might be going perfect but then something so unpleasant and unexpected happens that you find yourself questioning the meaning of your existence for a longer time than usual before arriving at the inevitable conclusion that such calamities are a part of life, a test of the endurance of your faith, and therefore must be… Continue

Because flowers bloom amongst wrinkled rocks,
Because water spurts in oasis in midst of deserts,
Because the sun fights its way up the horizon everyday,
I hold on.
Because the stars embellish the sky every night,
I keep hope.
Because I know that I do not know,
I go on...................:)

The adage that ignorance is bliss could not be farther from the truth when seriously put into practical application. Throughout the annals of time, what great accomplishments has ignorance made? What great empires and what marvels of science and technology now bear witness to ignorance's strength and power? That's right, none. Nothing of true worth is achieved without wisdom and knowledge.
It was with supreme knowledge that Allah Almighty laid the foundations of the heavens and the… Continue

Everyone possesses a number of passions, aspirations, emotions and feelings coming to them instinctively or as a reaction to the prevailing environment. A quality of a successful person is the capability of making the right decision at the right time and replacing desire by reason. We come across many challenges and tasks which determine our success or failure in the long run. One reality that every person faces is ‘fear’.
Fear is the worst feeling that engulfs a person. Everyone has… Continue

There are many reasons for us to forget and struggle to recall the information we need. However, the fault is not with the memory process itself, instead it lies with the way a person uses his memory that it gets very cluttered, making it very difficult to remember anything. Following are some tips to improve our memory.
Organise your life
Plan your future purposefully. Just keep in mind what you have to do, how you have to achieve your goal and how much time you… Continue

It’s just the beginning of a brand new year. If you're prone to optimism, as it is, the traditions are followed eagerly in almost all parts of Pakistan. Midnight parties, verbal countdowns, wishes, gifts and of course, the impregnable spirit of resolutions.
Not that there's anything wrong with making promises to oneself. I am all for grabbing a sheet and filling it with the imperfections one has seen through the year along with their possible solutions. And if nothing, at least… Continue
