Hardly anyone would disagree with the fact that we are perhaps the most amazing nation of the world. Amazing, not in a very good sense, though. We have some startling thesis for every international and domestic issue; and simultaneously we also have an antithesis about the same subject. In other words, we carry all kinds of contradictions and anomalies in our national behaviour which, even a "genius" like me :P, is unable to understand at times. Some examples in this regard are given below for your understanding; and I am sure that some intelligent soul would definitely help me in resolving these national paradoxes.

Of religious morality: As Muslims, we feel pride in making Quranic verses as ringtones in our mobile phones but when it comes to practical life, we set aside the Quranic verses without any guilt. We perform Hajj every year but when it comes to business, we don't hesitate in hoarding and adulteration of goods. We offer prayers five times a day in a disciplined manner but when it comes to driving, we forget all rules and traffic regulations. In terms of giving charitable donations with regard to our GDP, we are probably the 5th highest nation in the world, but at the same time, our tax GDP ratio is one of the lowest in the region.

Of politics: We voted against a military dictator overwhelmingly some years back and elected a democratic government; but now we are ready to buy all sorts of arguments against democracy. We demand that constitution must be restored in its original form and once it is restored, we start propagating against it with full force in media. We like people like Imran Khan but we vote for people like Jamshed Dasti. We hate landlords and industrialists, yet we select them in every election.

Of terrorism: We fought the Afghan war by preparing jehadis on the orders of the Americans; and now we are fighting war against terrorism by eliminating the same jehadis, again on the orders of the Americans. We know that Taliban are the people who bomb our markets, cities, schools, women, children, security forces and innocent citizens but still a considerable section of our society advocates for them - thanks to our so-called intellectuals. We are afraid of terrorism but we don't have the guts to give any information to the police about any suspicious activity.

Of cricket: Our cricket team captain is the person who tried to eat cricket ball in front of twenty cameras and got a fine of Rs. three million. Two of our former captains were given a ban for lifetime while one of our ex-captains was fined Rs. two million for hatching conspiracies within the team. However, after the punishment, our prime minister gave him the honour of state guest, thanks to his un-intended bride. Two of our team member brothers were fined Rs. five million in total but they also managed to get a berth in the team. And last but not least, the entry of our premium fast bowler was banned in Dubai because he tried to smuggle drugs into the country. We are, however, a nation of amazing contradictions because we still cheered them for victory.

How cruel are we nah, even for ourselves!!!!
