Graphic Designers And Your Sales Page - Problems And How To Avoid Them

One of the best ways to quickly get up and running on the internet with your own website is to use a graphic design specialist to do the page building, while you work on marketing your product. You may hire a graphic design company or may find a freelance designer online. Either way there are some things you need to consider when farming out your graphics work.

The web is full of graphic designers. If you do a search on Google you will get around 70 million search results. It isn't hard to find a graphic designer. It is hard to find a graphic designer or graphic design company that knows internet marketing and knows how to design a sales page.

Most graphic designers, whether from a firm or a freelancer, are great at what their name implies. They are great at creating graphical designs. Their emphasis is on how great looking they can design a page. They generally have no knowledge of internet marketing nor do they have any concept of how a sales page needs to be put together.

For example, many designers will create your headline as a beautiful graphic. I am sure, it will look incredible. It probably blends into the overall scheme of the website perfectly. There is just one main problem. By creating a graphic as your headline, in essence, as far as the search engines see your site, you have no headline.

If you know anything about search engine optimization, then you know that the two most important things about optimizing your page for the search engines is to have a headline that is keyword rich and to have keywords start as far up on the page as you can.

By utilizing a graphic for your headline, you get both of those optimization criteria wrong from the start. Since search engines don't read graphics, they only read text, your keyword-rich headline is totally useless from a search engine standpoint. In addition, by utilizing a graphic headline, the text is pushed farther down the page so the first opportunity to insert a keyword into the text is way down the page. Search engines like keywords as close to the top of the page as possible. The higher on the page the keyword is, the more important the search engines think it is.

A graphic designer that knows internet marketing, that knows how a sales page is constructed, would not make that mistake. He would design a page that will look great but will be done correctly. The knowledgeable designer knows you need a text headline.

Using a graphic design firm or a freelance graphic designer is a great way to get a good looking web page up and running quickly. You must be careful that whoever you choose, knows what they are doing if they are designing your sales page. Don't end up with a beautiful web page that doesn't sell, make your graphic choice wisely, and have a site created that optimizes your sales.
