“And be steadfast in prayer and pay zakaat and bow down with those who bow down”.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said “there are five things upon them the foundation of Islam has been kept. There is no God but Allah, to pray, to spend out the wealth (zakat)and to perform hajj,to fast roza in the blessed month of ramadam.
The literal meaning of zakaat is purification of wealth.
The religious meaning of zakat is spending out our wealth to the needy and helpless people.
First of all I want to express the historical background of zakat. Before the arrival of Islam riba was the biggest source of income, rich people borrowed their wealth to the poor’s and got back with riba. This situation was very harmful for the lower class, because the circulation of wealth was flowing from lower class to upper class. As a result the majority of people has reached at the dead point. This cruel system was the badly against to the fundamental rights there for Islam has changed this ascending circulation of wealth.
Islam not only encouraged theirs followers to spend out theirs money to the widows, orphans and other helpless people but clarified that you can’t attain the righteousness unless you spend from what you love. Whatsoever you spend, Allah is fully aware of it.
We can easily understand the importance of zakat in the muslim society. The first khalifa Hazrat Abo Bakr Siddique(RA)fought against those nations who refused to pay zakat.
And now in the 20th century when jews established new economic system(capitalism)and banking systems the circulation of wealth flowing very badly from poors to the rich,as a result 98% peoples can’t buy even necessary foods.
If this world again adopt the revelation laws ,we can surely change this world in a happy place for living.
The Zakat (Charity) verses in the holy Quran
Book 2, Number 2134:
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported Allah’s Messenger (way peace be upon him) as saying: No sadaqa (zakat) is payable on less than five wasqs of (dates or grains), on less than five camel-heads and on less than five uqiyas (of silver).
